Harvard police have charged a 20-year-old man in the death of a woman who fatally overdosed on fentanyl.
Justin Klages, of the 17500 block of McGuire Road, Harvard, was released Saturday from the McHenry County Jail after posting $10,000 bail, records show.
Klages is charged with drug-induced homicide in connection with the Nov. 22 death of 18-year-old Harvard woman Catherine Hannon. Klages’ attorney Philip Prossnitz could not immediately be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
Officers responded on Nov. 22 to a report of an unresponsive subject, Harvard Deputy Police Chief Tyson Bauman said.
Through their investigation, police identified Klages as the person who delivered Hannon the fentanyl in pill form the day before she died, court records show. Klages could face between six and 30 years in prison if he were convicted of drug-induced homicide.
At the time of his arrest on Wednesday, Klages was free on bond in connection with another set of drug charges stemming from Hannon’s death investigation. Those allegations were filed in a separate criminal case and accuse Klages of possessing and delivering Oxycodone to Hannon on Nov. 22, court records show.
Officials charged Klages with drug-induced homicide about a month later after police reviewed toxicology results and other evidence tied to Hannon’s death, Bauman said.
Klages is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Jan. 27.
