High school volleyball: Northwest Herald Power Rankings for Sept. 8

1. Huntley (6-0): The Red Raiders are one of two teams remaining without a loss in the Fox Valley Conference and should remain in contention for the FVC crown throughout the season.

2. Crystal Lake South (5-0): Last season’s FVC tournament runner-up returned all but one starter from the spring and looks like a real threat to win it all this fall. The Gators are tied with Huntley atop the FVC standings at 5-0.

3. Jacobs (6-4): The Golden Eagles played well at their own invite over the weekend, taking fourth, and are off to a solid start in the FVC, with their only two losses to FVC co-leaders Huntley and South.

4. Burlington Central (3-3): The Rockets are one of six teams with a 2-3 record in FVC play, but two of those losses were against Huntley and South. And Burlington is the only team to push Huntley to three sets this year, so it gets the nod.

5. Woodstock North (3-2): The Thunder are off to a 2-0 start in the KRC after claiming their first conference title in the spring. North returned its entire starting lineup, including last season’s KRC Player of the Year, Kylie Schulze, and the area’s top returning kills leader, Alyssa Wickersheim.
