Girls basketball: COVID-19 protocols knock Crystal Lake Central girls out of regular season

Crystal Lake Central’s girls basketball team has entered COVID-19 protocols and will miss the last five games of the regular season.

Tigers coach Derek Crabill announced the news on the team’s Twitter page (@clctigersgbb) on Wednesday: “Due to COVID concerns, we have had to cancel our varsity game vs. CLS tonight. The F/S game will still be played at 5 pm! #BeUs #WeRCLC #TigerPride”

Central is 3-1 overall, and 3-1 in the Fox Valley Conference. After winning only two FVC games last season, the Tigers were off to a strong start and lost to defending FVC champion Dundee-Crown, 48-47, last week.

On the team’s schedule page, the Tigers’ last five regular-season games are canceled because of the quarantine. Central still had South, McHenry, Huntley, Cary-Grove and Burlington Central remaining on its schedule.

The FVC Tournament is set to start March 6. Crabill said the Tigers still hope to compete in the tournament.

Crystal Lake South’s boys team was the first area varsity team to be stopped by a COVID-19 quarantine last week, but the Gators were fortunate to have a week off and still be able to reschedule their games. They are slated to play six days in a row, beginning Sunday at McHenry.
