Marengo falls to Wheaton Academy in 1A regional semifinal

Marengo lost to Wheaton Academy, 7-0, in the Class 1A Hinckley-Big Rock Boys Soccer Sectional semifinals on Wednesday.

Marengo (8-15) was playing in a boys soccer sectional for the first time in school history. The Warriors will play Genoa-Kingston at 3 p.m. Saturday for the sectional championship.

Class 2A Crystal Lake South Regional: Wauconda defeated Harvard, 1-0, in double overtime in their regional opener.

The Hornets (15-5) won the Kishwaukee River Conference and could not manage any goals against the victorious Bulldogs. Wauconda got the deciding goal off a penalty kick in the second overtime.

Andres Hernandez made eight saves in goal for Harvard.

Class 2A Burlington Central Regional: Boylan defeated the host Rockets (2-16-4) in their regional opener, 5-0.

The Titans will face Kaneland, a 2-1 winner over Rochelle in the other semifinal, at 3 p.m. Saturday for the championship.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Crystal Lake South 2, Wauconda 0: At Wauconda, the Gators (28-5) beat the Bulldogs, 25-14, 26-24.

Jessie Proszenyak led South with 10 kills and had seven digs. Faith Gruenwald had 11 assists and Emma Stowasser added 10 assists.

Morgan Jones contributed seven kills, Mia Regillio had six blocks Alyssa Zagroba added eight digs and two aces.

Marengo 2, Harvard 0: At Marengo, the Indians defeated the Hornets (4-26, 0-10) in their KRC match, 25-19, 25-17.

Katelyn Duber led Harvard with five kills, Asha Billstrand had 18 digs and two blocks, and Emma Finfrock had three assists. Abby Perkins served two aces.

Johnsburg 2, Richmond-Burton 0: At Johnsburg, Emmi Wizceb put down 10 kills to lead the Skyhawks to a KRC victory over the Rockets, 25-23, 25-23.

Delaney Stern had five aces, five kills, six digs and 15 assists for Johnsburg. Kayalee Fouke had five kills, one ace and two digs.

Woodstock North 2, Marian Central 0: At Woodstock, the Thunder defeated the Hurricanes in a nonconference match, 25-19, 25-23.

Thunder libero Madison Miller had 14 digs and two assists, Alyssa Wickersheim contributed with 10 kills and two aces, and Faith Eddy added eight kills. The teams scheduled the match Tuesday when Westminster Christian had to cancel its match with North.

Kaitlyn Mullen had 11 assists for the Hurricanes, along with three aces and two kills. Valle Leggett added five kills and six digs, and Kate Rodden had six digs, two aces and two kills.
