Johnsburg girls golf team repeats as Kishwaukee River Conference Tournament champ

Johnsburg’s girls golf team earned its second straight Kishwaukee River Conference Tournament title Wednesday, firing a team score of 417 at Blackstone in Marengo and turning in five of the top 10 individual scores.

Harvard’s Julia Chupich claimed medalist honors with a 90 and was three shots ahead of Johnsburg’s Riley Klotz (93). Richmond-Burton’s Sierra Simecek took third with a 100, and Makenna Donohoe took fourth with a 104. Marengo’s Cadence Leucht was fifth with a 106.

Johnsburg’s Amber Smith and Marengo’s Emma Leucht tied for sixth with 107s. Johnsburg’s Addison Mass (108) was eighth, while the Skyhawks’ Chloe Benz and Mackenzie McQuiston tied for ninth with 109s.

Marengo took second as a team with a 444, R-B (445) was third, and Harvard (455) was fourth.

BOYS GOLF

Kishwaukee River Conference Tournament: At Blackstone in Marengo on Tuesday, Woodstock North co-op won its third consecutive KRC championship with a team score of 328, safely beating runner-up Richmond-Burton (358) by 30 shots and placing all four of the top individual scores at the tournament.

Woodstock North co-op’s Brady Heeren earned medalist honors by shooting an 81, Sam Berry and Aidan Sivore tied for second with 82s and Luke Trewyn took fourth with an 83. Not counted in the team scoring, Max Hodory (85) was seventh, Jake Murray (91) was 11th and Frank Ferru (94) was 12th.

Harvard took third in the team standings with a 372, followed by Johnsburg (393) and Marengo (409).

Harvard’s Logan Garafol and R-B’s Colten Miller tied for fifth with 84s, R-B’s Jeff Lehn (86) was eighth and Ryan Eskuri (87) was ninth, and Harvard’s Myles Brincks (88) was 10th. Marengo’s Sean Ettner, Harvard’s Connor Pedersen and Johnsburg’s Michael Link and Nick Grons all tied for 13th with 96s.

Harvard 179, North Boone 180: At Beaver Creek in Capron, Brincks shot 40 and Garafol had a 43 as the Hornets edged the Vikings by one stroke in their nonconference match.

Caden Scott shot a 45 and Pedersen had a 51 for Harvard. Drew Camp led North Boone with a 41.

Woodstock North co-op 182, Burlington Central 191: At Bull Valley Golf Club, Berry shot 43 to lead the Thunder past the Rockets in their nonconference match.

Murray (45), Ferru (47) and Sivore (47) helped North move to 9-1 in dual matches.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Woodstock North 2, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, the Thunder’s winning streak was extended to 13 matches with a 25-18, 25-15 win over the Blue Streaks in KRC action.

North (14-3, 5-0) has won 17 KRC matches in a row. Alyssa Wickersheim led the Thunder with 13 kills, and Kylie Schulze had 17 assists, eight digs and three kills.

Faith Eddy added five kills and two aces.

Marengo 2, Harvard 0: At Harvard, Michaela Almeida, Gianna Almeida and Abby Rohe all had four kills as the Indians defeated the Hornets in their KRC match, 25-15, 25-14.

Gianna Almeida added six digs, Rohe had three digs and two aces, Addie Johnson added four assists and five digs and Alexandra Brackmann had three aces and 11 digs.

Harvard (1-12, 0-5) got four kills and 11 digs from Asha Billstrand. Emma Fifrock led the Hornets with five assists.

Richmond-Burton 2, Johnsburg 1: At Richmond, the Rockets (8-12, 4-1) came back from losing the first set to defeat the Skyhawks in their KRC match 20-25, 25-14, 25-15.

Elissa Furlan led R-B with 13 kills, four aces and five digs. Maggie Uhwat had five kills, three aces and 10 digs; and Kaitlyn Lehecka added three kills, three aces and 13 assists.

Delaney Stern had four kills, 10 assists and four aces for the Skyhawks. Emmie Wisceb added four kills, and Maddie Huhn contributed 10 digs.

Marian Central 2, Westlake Academy 0: At Woodstock, Ella Conlon had six kills and three aces to help the Hurricanes (2-11) defeat the Eagles in a nonconference match.

Kaitlyn Mullen had eight assists for Marian, Kate Rodden added three kills, four digs and two aces and Grace Adams had seven assists and two aces.

Prairie Ridge 2, St. Charles East 0: At St. Charles, Ansley Morlock delivered nine kills and eight digs to lead the Wolves (6-10) past the Saints in their nonconference match, 25-18, 25-21.

Brianna Scheid had five kills and two blocks, Rilee Schulze added nine assists and three digs, and Vanessa Holtz had eight assists, two blocks and two kills.

Breckan Severson came through with 10 digs and two assists.

Burlington Central 2, Hampshire 0: The Rockets defeated the Whip-Purs (11-14, 2-8) in their FVC match, 26-24, 25-15.

GIRLS TENNIS

Crystal Lake Central 6, Crystal Lake South 1: At Crystal Lake, Parker Zautcke and Katie Hamill won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles to lead the Tigers (15-3, 5-1) to an FVC win over the Gators.

Olivia Johnson and Megan Rapisarda (No. 1), Emma Grindstaff and Natalia Piekunko (No. 2), Grace Cullian and Anika Richard (No. 3) and Reese Schurter and Maggie Naughton (No. 4) won in doubles for Central.

South’s Abby Jurrens won at No. 3 singles.

Cary-Grove 5, Grayslake North 2: At Grayslake, the Trojans got a win at No. 1 singles from Annabelle Gaffaney and swept the doubles matches in their nonconference match.

C-G (9-7) got wins from Katie Jannusch and Brooke Iversen (No. 1), Kim Klawitter and Gwenn Morgan (No. 2), Maggie Groos and Mary Sessions (No. 3) and Katelyn O’Malley and Danni Miller (No. 4) in doubles.

Woodstock North 5, Woodstock 2: At Woodstock, Anika Treadway and Bethany Lintner won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles to lead the Thunder to a KRC win over the Blue Streaks.

Elle Lagerstrom and Mariam Syed (No. 1), Ariel Pierce and Hailey O’Brien (No. 3) and Sophia Davidson and Jacky Alvarez (No. 4) won in doubles for the Thunder.

Marta Fito won at No. 3 singles and Reese Freund and Madison Kentgen won at No. 2 doubles for the Streaks.

Hampshire 5, Dundee-Crown 2: At Carpentersville, the Whip-Purs prevailed in two three-set doubles matches that made the difference for the FVC victory over the Chargers.

Ava Carroll and Sada Zaidi won at No. 2 doubles, and Gabby Montenegro and Katrina Vergara won at No. 3 doubles, both in three sets, for the Whips.

Isavela Masotti and Rachel Brunsting won at Nos. 2 and 3 singles for Hampshire. Karolina Ryzka and Clare Hahn won at No. 1 doubles.

D-C got a win at No. 1 singles from Rujul Shah and a win at No. 4 doubles from Erin Aagard and Avery Swarthout.

BOYS SOCCER

Woodstock 3, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, Tim Maidment scored twice and Angel Meraz added another goal as the Blue Streaks (6-4-1, 4-2) beat the Skyhawks (5-8-1, 3-4) in their KRC game.

St. Patrick 1, Marian Central 0: At Chicago, the Shamrocks got a goal from Ivan Guerrero with 32 seconds remaining for an East Suburban Catholic Conference victory.

Dawson Yegge had 12 saves for the Hurricanes (6-8, 0-4). Marian coach Art Dixon credited Matt Garrelts, Jacob Bonnet, Derek Emmert, Nick Giesinger and Joseph Godor for their defensive play.

JUCO VOLLEYBALL

McHenry County College 3, College of Lake County 0: At Crystal Lake, the Scots (15-4, 4-0 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference) rolled past the Lancers, 25-9, 25-5, 25-12.

MCC is ranked No. 6 in NJCAA Division II.
