Route 176 closed near Crystal Lake amid police investigation

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office closed a portion of Route 176 to traffic for an “active police investigation” Saturday morning near Crystal Lake.

The sheriff’s office sent out an alert at 7:21 a.m. Saturday that Route 176 from Route 31 and Smith Road is closed to traffic. It is unclear what they are investigating.

There is no danger to the public, according to the alert.
