A crash that shut down Route 14 near Woodstock for more than three hours Monday resulted in a man being flown to a hospital in Rockford.
The collision between a car and a semi without a trailer occurred at about 10 a.m. and caused the car to flip and come to rest on its roof, Alex Vucha, the Harvard Fire Protection public information officer, said in a news release.
Responders learned from police that the male driver was conscious but trapped in the car and were able to extricate him within 30 minutes, despite the extreme heat.

The driver was flown via medical helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford with severe injuries. The semi driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, Vucha said.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Route 14 and Bunker Hill Road between Woodstock and Harvard, prompting authorities to close Route 14 between Bunker Hill and Lembcke Road, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said in a news alert.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District assisted, and the sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
