A woman died Tuesday morning incident near Woodstock from apparently gunshot wounds.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was called out to the intersection of Route 14 and Hughes Road at 9:02 a.m., district spokesperson Alex Vucha said.
Paramedics arrived shortly after and were told by McHenry County sheriff’s deputies a woman “had sustained traumatic injuries believed to be associated with a firearm prior to their arrival,” Vucha said.
Paramedics assessed the woman, who was declared dead on scene. A medical helicopter was placed on standby but canceled, Vucha said.
Hughes Road between Route 14 and Kishwaukee Valley Road was closed for several hours Tuesday.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office sent out an alert at 9:21 a.m. that the road was closed due to an ongoing police investigation, and sent a follow-up alert at 12:52 p.m. that the road was reopened.
The investigation into the circumstances and cause of death is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, Vucha said.
