La Salle-Peru senior Lauren Phillips (seated, center) recently signed a national letter of intent to play softball at IVCC. She was joined by her parents Chet and Shelly Phillips (seated) and (standing left to right) Illinois Irish coach Tom Morris and Wedron Wildfire and Illinois Irish coach Brian McCallum. “Lauren is a great addition to our program,” IVCC coach Cory Tomasson said. “First, she is a strong student who knows how to balance her time with athletics. Second, she is a versatile and athletic player who will have an immediate impact on next year’s lineup. I am really hoping Lauren will be able to take over one of the infield spots on the left side. She can hit for both average and power and is pretty quick on the bases. I also think she expects a lot out of herself and others, which can be a great motivator. Lauren is the first of many strong recruits we have coming in next year.”
