A worker in Peru was injured Monday in an apparent industrial accident and was listed Tuesday in critical condition.

A 55-year-old Dalzell man was injured at 6 a.m. Monday at American Nickeloid, Peru. A preliminary report from the Peru Police Department said a man became stuck in a conveyor, was freed and reported unconscious when Peru Fire and EMS responded to the scene.

The man was flown by LifeFlight Helicopter directly to St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. A hospital spokeswoman reported at midday Tuesday that he is listed as critical.

“Our thoughts are with (the worker’s) family, friends and co-workers during this difficult time,” said Susan Jones, human resources manager for American Nickeloid.
