Motorist dies following Cedar Point crash

Fire chief said vehicle struck a utility pole, then motel

A motorist died following a crash Saturday on Route 71 in Cedar Point, in which the vehicle left the roadway struck a utility pole and then the Cedar Point motel.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene after Cedar Point Fire Department arrived shortly before 9:30 p.m., said Cedar Point Fire Chief Allen Haeffner.

The crash is under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the La Salle County Coroner’s Office.

The name of the motorist is being withheld until their family has been notified, Haeffner said.

The Cedar Point Fire Department was assisted by Standard Fire Department, Tonica Fire Department Ambulance, Oglesby Fire and EMS, Illinois State Police, La Salle County Sheriff’s Office and La Salle County Coroner’s Office.
