Two victims of a three-vehicle crash Friday on Interstate 39 were taken to hospitals — one of them flown from the scene to a Peoria hospital by medical helicopter.
Lostant firefighters and ambulance responded at about 11:30 a.m. Friday, finding a semi and car collided on the interstate southbound at milepost 44 and an SUV left the roadway and rolled into the cornfield on the west side of the interstate, said Lostant Fire Chief Andy Forrest.
“It’s unknown at this time what caused the collision,” Forrest said.
One of those victims was flown to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. The second victim was taken by Oglesby Ambulance to St. Margaret’s-Peru. The two occupants in the other vehicle along with the semi driver all refused medical treatment from EMS.
Lostant responders were assisted by Oglesby Ambulance and Putnam County EMS. Also, on scene was La Salle County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois Department of Transportation.
Illinois State Police District 17 is handling the investigation of the crash.
An hour earlier, Lostant firefighters and ambulance were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover crash with lane blockage on Interstate 39 southbound, about 1/2 mile south of milepost 45. Forrest said an SUV was on its top in the passing lane. The driver exited the vehicle, flagged down another vehicle and got a ride to an unknown location. Illinois State Police are trying to locate this driver. There were no other vehicles or persons involved, Forrest said.
