Peru baseball team looking for someone to take on SouthClaw Sam character

The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp has launched its search for a mascot.

The Pistol Shrimp team is looking for “an energetic, outgoing individual to perform as SouthClaw Sam, their adorably zany and lovable mascot at Pistol Shrimp games and community appearances.”

Videotape your best dance moves (30 seconds or less) in a tryout video and email it to: SouthClaw@PistolShrimpBaseball.com.

Be sure to include your name and contact information. Videos will be accepted through Saturday, April 10. Finalists will be contacted for an interview and live audition in the SouthClaw suit the following week. Finalists’ auditions will be recorded and posted online for the public to vote beginning April 19.

The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp is an amateur wood bat summer league baseball team, made up of college players from around the country who aspire for a career in professional baseball. Established in 2019, the Pistol Shrimp are part of The Prospect League, a 16-team league that spans the Midwest from Iowa to Pennsylvania.

The Pistol Shrimp call Veterans Memorial Park in Peru home this summer. The season is scheduled to begin May 27.
