The first tenant of the anticipated Gateway to La Salle Development is now up and running, as Nick’s on 6 opened Friday, June 18.
Owner Nick Hammers was pleased with the start the business has seen still very early on as things have begun to come together.
“It’s been a pretty good start,” Hammers said. “We kind of did a soft opening this last weekend and we’ve finally got everything kind of buttoned up. We’ve seen a pretty good turn out all week long and we’ve had tables and the bar full over the weekend. It’s been a pretty good time so far.”
Hammers mentioned the business is looking forward to the Celebrate La Salle festival this weekend and everything it brings to the city. He is happy to provide another establishment in downtown La Salle.

“We’re hoping that after the bands get done playing over there, we’ll be open until 2 a.m., they can work their way from Celebrate La Salle over to Nick’s on 6,” Hammers said.
The outdoor patio is completed at this time and includes speakers, tables and will eventually have an outdoor bar as well.
“I think it’ll be a fun place to bring your kids and dogs,” Hammers said. “It’ll be a cool place to hang out, sit outside and enjoy the weather.”
The business will be hosting its first concert on Friday, July 2, as Casey McGrath will be performing from 7 to 10 p.m. McGrath is a violinist who plays various types of rock music
Nick’s on 6 is on the list to receive video gaming machines located in a room off of the main bar in the building.
The Gateway to La Salle Project is in the process of installing the artificial turf greenspace located between the two buildings on the property. The project will include balconies and coverings above the outdoor patio.
The entire project has moved quickly as developers hope to see even more aspects of the outdoor greenspace completed by the end of the summer.
The downtown La Salle project will feature three other retail spaces alongside Nick’s on 6. These spaces will include a restaurant, a commissary commercial kitchen entitled Launch Kitchen and a wine bar that’s name is still under consideration.
Nick’s on 6 is located at 328 Third St., Suite A, in La Salle and is open from 4 to 11 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and from 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. from Friday to Sunday.
