Crash report: Significant crash snarls Interstate 80 at the Peru exit

Semi tractor trailers, multiple vehicles involved in crash

A multiple-vehicle crash involving two semis and three vehicles occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on Interstate 80 at the Peru exit Thursday April 1,2021. The crash occurred in the eastbound lane. Peru, La Salle, Spring Valley and Utica fire along with paramedics were on the scene. (Scott Anderson)

A multiple-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 80 near mile marker 75 near the Peru exit.

At 8:04 a.m. Thursday, Peru, La Salle, Spring Valley and Utica EMS crews were called to a report of a vehicle overturned and a semi tractor-trailer was involved in the crash. The semi tractor-trailer was leaking fuel at one point when emergency crews arrived.

Eastbound traffic had backed up to the Spring Valley exit.

Spring Valley and Utica ambulances left the scene to area hospitals. Illinois State Police closed Interstate 80 from the Plank Road exit to Route 251.

Motorists should avoid this area until it is cleared.
