NewsTribune Athlete of the Week: Mendota’s Krew Bond

Krew Bond is a catalyst for the Mendota boys basketball team on both ends of the floor.

He’s the Trojans’ leading scorer but also sets up his teammates, rebounds and plays tough defense.

Last week, he averaged 17 points a game, as Mendota went 2-1. Bond scored 18 points in a Three Rivers Conference East Division win over St. Bede and scored 18 more in a nonconference win over former Big Northern Conference foe North Boone.

“Krew was instrumental in our two wins,” MHS coach Steve Hanson said. “His decision making was superb. He also really helped us out on the boards in some big spots. We ask Krew to do a lot of things in the course of a game on offense and defense, and he definitely lives up to the challenge. As he continues to develop, we look forward to more big nights from him.”

For his performance, Bond was voted the NewsTribune Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Central Bank and Witek Wealth Management.

Bond answered a few questions from NewsTribune sports editor Kevin Chlum.
