Waltham North demolition to begin by month’s end? Superintendent is hopeful

After demolition, vacant lot will be put up for sale

The rear of the former Waltham North School building located on 33rd Road north of Utica, will be demolished soon. The school is currently vacant and ready for tearing down as of Tuesday July 20, 2021.

Waltham Elementary is closing in on the demolition of Waltham North School.

Superintendent Kristi Eager reported the utilities are disconnected and the remaining items are to submit paperwork to the Regional Office of Education, which will complete a walk-through. Eager said she hopes demolition commences by month’s end.

“We’ll see if it takes the full five weeks,” Eager said. “The disconnections took a lot longer than I anticipated.”

Waltham Township Supervisor Bill Stack approached the board about whether they plan to extend the handshake agreement under which Waltham mows the grass around Waltham North while the township provides plowing.

Eager replied the district will continue mowing for the time being. After the demolition is completed, however, the vacant parcel will be placed up for sale.

Finally, the board unanimously voted against adopting the National Sex Education Standards. Sex education is not part of Waltham’s curriculum.
