Danny Wuestenfeld hits for cycle in Shrimp rout

Danny Wuestenfeld hit for the cycle Sunday to lead the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp to a 15-1, seven-inning rout of the Clinton LumberKings in Clinton, Iowa.

Wuestenfeld started his cycle with a double in the second inning and later scored on a two-run double by Nolan Clifford.

Wuestenfeld singled as part of the Shrimp’s four-run third inning in which Colton Coca, Sam Link, Clifford and Justin Rios drove in runs.

Wuestenfeld ripped a two-run tripe in the sixth inning and ended the game with a grand slam in the seventh.

He finished 5 for 5 with six RBIs and two runs.

Clifford had three RBIs, Andy Nelson scored three runs, Coca was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Will Worthington went 3 for 4 with a pair of runs.

Jason Shanner earned the win on the mound as he gave up one run on three hits while striking out six batters and walking two in six innings.

Mitch Benson pitched a scoreless seventh, allowing one hit with one strikeout and one walk.

The Pistol Shrimp (20-31) play the Wabash Valley REX (19-32) at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans Park in Peru.
