Arson suspected in Rutland fire

State fire marshal, La Salle County Sheriff’s Office investigating fire

Officials believe a fire Friday morning at an abandoned commercial building in the 100 block of Southwest Front Street in Rutland was caused by arson.

Toluca-Rutland Fire Chief Jason Faw said multiple fire departments were called because of the amount of water that had to be used to extinguish the fully-involved 60-feet by 80-feet building.

Faw also said a firefighters was taken to a local hospital and released after a minor injury.

The fire is being investigated by the Illinois Fire Marshal and the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office.

EMC Ambulance, Varna Ambulance and Washburn Ambulance, along with Wenona, Minonk, Lostant, Lacon, Washburn, Dana, Varna, Streator, Tonica, Benson, Magnolia, Roanoke, El Paso, Henry and Standard firefighters responded.
