Reddick Mansion in Ottawa will be open for homecoming photos

Gardens and grounds available

A view of the The Reddick Mansion in Ottawa. Built between 1855 and 1858 by businessman and politician William Reddick, the 22-room Italianate mansion was the most expensive and ornate private home built in Illinois before the Civil War. Located at 100 West Lafayette Street, at Columbus Street, the historically important and architecturally unique house anchors Washington Square, the site of the first Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

The Reddick Mansion Association in Ottawa invites students from Ottawa and Marquette Academy high schools to visit the mansion and use its gardens and grounds for homecoming dance photos.

Homecoming attendees, as well as their families and friends, are welcome. The mansion itself will not be open for photos.

The grounds will be open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3rd for Ottawa High School’s homecoming and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, for Marquette Academy’s homecoming.

Members of the Reddick Mansion Association will be on site to direct people and answer any questions. There is no charge for this event, but donations are gratefully appreciated. The Reddick Mansion gardens are maintained by an all-volunteer work force.

The Reddick Mansion, 100 W. Lafayette St., built in 1858, is open for tours and has rental space available for special events.
