Streator Mayor Tara Bedei said the city was making “good news all across the world,” for a Streator firefighter’s rescue of Macy from a sinkhole in Marilla Park.
Referring to herself as an animal lover, the mayor thanked a resident and his chocolate Labrador Wrigley during Wednesday’s meeting for locating Macy, a golden retriever, in the sinkhole, then Streator firefighters for the rescue.
Macy was found when Wrigley passed by the sinkhole and started growling, then barking. Once Macy returned barks, the fire department was called and the rescue mission began.
Streator firefighters shared the video on their Facebook page of the rescue.
City Manager David Plyman added to the mayor’s comments: “The sinkhole has been fixed.”
