The Somonauk baseball team topped Newark 5-4 in Little Ten Conference action, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 11th on a wild pitch. The Bobcats were led by Scott Powers (winning pitcher, 8 IP in relief, 11 K), Josh Rivera (single, double), Chris Giesholt (two singles, RBI), and Matt Hochstatter (single, double, two RBIs). Norsemen starter Kyle Janssen went 10 innings with 10 strikeouts, while Dale Johnson had a pair of hits and RBIs, and Nick Verda an RBI single.

The Streator softball squad blanked St. Bede, 5-0. Katie McClellan had a two-out, two-run double for the Bulldogs, while Lori Gubbels had a two-run single, and Felicia Phillips a run-scoring single. Lyndi Araujo earned the win in the circle allowing four hits and fanning eight.

The Streator softball team — behind a no-hitter with 11 Ks from Wendy Niebuhr — defeated Geneseo 2-0 in a North Central Illinois Conference tilt. The Bulldogs received hits from Amy Yusko, JoMarie Halko (RBI), and Lauren Missel.

The Marquette baseball squad shut out Roanoke-Benson 2-0 in a Tri-County Conference game. Mike Hall earned the complete-game pitching win for the Crusaders after giving up just three hits and fanning six, while John Calkins posted a run-scoring single.

The Ottawa baseball team defeated visiting Streator, 6-3. Pirates’ winning pitcher Robb Winter allowed just three hits in 6 1/3 innings, while Cody Hughes recorded the final two outs for the save. The Bulldogs received RBI singles each from John Riblet and Joe Wargo.

The Seneca baseball club edged host Indian Creek, 2-1. Keith Pfeifer earned the complete-game win on the mound for the Fighting Irish, scattering four hits and striking out seven, while Matt Maierhofer plated a run with a suicide squeeze and Matt Jackson singled and scored on an error.

The Woodland baseball team defeated Dwight, 6-0. Randy Delheimer earned the win for the Warriors, allowing just two hits with three strikeouts. Woodland was led at the plate by Randy Higbie (single, double, RBI), Ed Creamean (two singles), Mike Renner (two-run single), and Mel McMeen (double, RBI).
