Gayan pitches big win for Kentucky
Ottawa High School graduate, former Times Softball Player of the Year and current University of Kentucky pitcher Sloan Gayan allowed one run over five innings of relief to earn her first career Southeastern Conference pitching win, 9-4 over No. 3 Alabama on Sunday.
Gayan is 4-0 this season with a 1.67 ERA and six strikeouts over 21 innings pitched.
Dolphins swim to 7th at state
The Ottawa Dolphins swim team placed seventh at the 2022 Illinois YMCA State Championships held in St. John, Indiana, with four swimmers – Breckyn Jobst (third in 8U girls), Elizabeth Hansen (7th in 10U girls), Finley Jobst (eighth in girls 12U) and Adam Swanson (third in boys 14U) – scoring in the top 10 of their individual divisions.
Although Ottawa had no first-place finishes, top-10 individual event finishes came from Quinn Wilkinson (three events), Bo Weitl (one event), Adam Swanson (six events), Ryan Nelson (four events), Finley Jobst (five events), Breckyn Jobst (five events) and Elizabeth Hansen (five events).
In relay events, the boys 14U 200 freestyle team (Lucas Farabaugh, Griffin Sharp, Jonathan Neu, Adam Swanson) and boys 14U 200 medley team (Bo Weitl, Adam Swanson, Griffin Sharp, Lucas Farabaugh) both scored third-place finishes. The girls 12U 200 freestyle team (Anna Weitl, Dawsynn Kettman, Addisyn Budnick, Finley Jobst) and boys 8U 100 freestyle team (Ryland Heaver, Jack Abernathy, Parker Hettel, Atley Strow) both added fifth-place swims.
