La Grange author appointed to library board

LA GRANGE – Children’s author Lisa Katzenberger of La Grange has been appointed a trustee to the La Grange Public Library Board of Trustees.

Katzenberger was appointed to fill a recent vacancy on the board left by Trustee Thomas Jandris, who stepped down for personal reasons. Katzenberger was a top candidate from the 2021 recruitment process from which Jandris was appointed, a news release stated. Her term runs through April 30, 2023.

Katzenberger holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northern Illinois University. She was an officer for the West Suburban Moms of Multiples nonprofit community group, including serving as the vice president. She has worked as a technical writer, instructional designer and director of product management. She currently teaches creative writing courses for The Writing Barn. Her books include “Triceratops Would NOT Make a Good Ninja,” “National Regular Average Ordinary Day” and her most recent 2021 title, “It Will Be OK: A story of empathy, kindness, and friendship.”

“With Lisa’s insight as an author, she brings experience and expertise in an area that isn’t represented in our current board,” library board President Joyce Hagen-McIntosh said in the release. “We are excited to have trustees with a variety of backgrounds and knowledge, and I look forward to working with her.”

Katzenberger was sworn in at the Jan. 25 board meeting.

“I am a lifelong reader, frequent library patron, mom to book-obsessed 11-year-olds, and children’s book author,” she said in the release. “What I bring to this position is my passion for reading, respect for literature, and belief that the library is a vital institution for spreading knowledge among its community. I look forward to having a more active role in my community and giving back to my neighbors.”
