Fall Fun Fest to kick off Glen Ellyn Library Foundation fundraising efforts

The Glen Ellyn Library Foundation will lead an $80,000 fundraising campaign for an outreach van to serve the community beyond Glen Ellyn Public Library’s building on Duane Street.

“The addition of a mobile library van will allow us to expand our services within the community,” Dawn Bussey, library director, said in a news release.

Friends of the Library and Glen Ellyn Library Foundation each committed $20,000 to begin the campaign with $40,000. The remaining $40,000 will be raised from community members and businesses.

Beginning Oct. 1, a video will appear on the library website at gepl.org/foundation and on social media, featuring community members who already enjoy services beyond the library building. Storytime in the Park, home delivery, and programs in local schools and senior living communities are examples of services the library provides that can be enhanced and expanded with an outreach van.

Ralph Covert part of Fall Fun Fest

A free outdoor Fall Fun Fest will celebrate the beginning of the campaign from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 16 in the library parking lot. The family-friendly event is for adults and children of all ages, with fun games, live music and food and beverages from local food vendors available for purchase.

Performing will be Glen Ellyn-based musicians Ralph Covert, featuring a Ralph’s World solo acoustic set, and 7DEEZ, a disco-funk-Motown tribute band.

“We hope the community will come to the Fall Fun Fest to enjoy great fall weather, socialize with neighbors, and learn more about the Glen Ellyn Library Foundation’s plans to expand the reach of the library,” Joli Murphy, foundation president, said in the release.
