Chicago man pleads guilty to possessing stolen car in case tied to Downers Grove, Warrenville carjackings

A Chicago man pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle in a case connected to carjackings in Downers Grove and Warrenville.

Reginald Farr, 33, accepted a sentence of four years in prison. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dropped five felony gun and ammunition charges and a felony charge of armed violence.

Farr was found in possession of a stolen Dodge Charger on Dec. 13, 2019, DuPage County Assistant State’s Attorney Kristin Sullivan told Judge Michael Reidy.

Sullivan said carjackers stole a woman’s Kia while she was in the driveway of her home on Hawkins Street in Downers Grove. A friend of the victim followed the Kia as it was being driven toward Woodridge.

When the Kia stopped in traffic, the friend got out of his Dodge Charger and approached it. The people in the Kia ran off. While the friend moved the Kia off the road, one of the alleged carjackers got in the Charger and drove off.

Police later found the car in Farr’s possession at a Downers Grove hotel. Sullivan said Farr admitted he knew the car was stolen.

Farr will receive credit for the 706 days he spent in the DuPage County jail awaiting trial or transfer to prison. He will have to serve at least 50% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

“Don’t you think you are getting a little old for all this?” Reidy asked Farr, who replied, “Yes, sir.”

Cordell Nickels of Chicago, Farr’s co-defendant, has a March 4 court date on weapons and possession of stolen motor vehicle charges.

The Hawkins Street carjacking was one of three carjackings authorities say were committed by a crew in November and December of 2019. Two took place in Downers Grove and one in Warrenville. Emanuel Embry, 22; Daysean Washington-Davis, 21; and Martavious Robinson, 19, all of Chicago, are awaiting trial in those cases.
