Three new members will join the Oswego Village Board of Trustees following the April 6 election.

Final, unofficial vote totals show that Kit Kuhrt, Jennifer Jones Sinnot and Tom Guist won election to four-year terms on the board, unseating two incumbents and a third board member who opted not to seek another term.

Results show Guist taking 1,998 votes, followed by Jones Sinnot with 1,870 and Kuhrt with 1,783. Incumbents Pam Parr and Luis Perez received 1,455 and 1,426 votes respectively. Candidate Judy Siedlecki recieved 1,312 votes.

Guist, Jones Sinnot and Kuhrt each registered as Republican candidates on the ballot, while Parr, Perez and Siedlecki were listed as Independent.

With the victory of Guist, Jones Sinnot and Kuhrt, Parr and Perez will not retain their seats. The third vacancy on the board belonged to longtime trustee Judy Sollinger, who announced her decision to retire from her seat in 2020.

“I am excited about the results,” Guist said in an email sent April 7. “I worked hard the past four months, knocked on a lot of doors, talked to a lot of residents about the issues the village faces and how we can approach them.

“I’m glad the residents agree and I’m ready to get to work.”

“It’s an exciting time for Oswego,” Jones Sinnot said. “It’s super, super exciting. I care very deeply about the community, and I just want to make a positive impact.

“It’s an exciting time to move forward and make Oswego even better.”

A priority for Jones Sinnot will be continuing to educate herself on village issues and concerns, including finding a water source, something she called a “high priority” for the village.

“I’m looking forward to diving into that and doing my research,” she said.

Jones Sinnot is also excited to expand Oswego’s economic base “in a responsible fashion,” and to focus on fiscal responsibility.

“The majority of the people out there want us to continue to try and tax less and spend less to help with that property tax element,” something Jones Sinnot said was an obvious priority to residents during the campaign.

Kuhrt did not return requests for comment.

The Oswego Village Board of Trustees will next meet April 20 at Village Hall, 100 Parkers Mill.
