Montgomery man sentenced to seven-year jail term in Yorkville sex assault case

A Montgomery man, Kevin W. DeBolt, 29, of the 2500 block of Hartfield Drive, who was found guilty on a charge of criminal sexual assault last year, has been sentenced to a seven-year jail term, according to Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis.

In a press release, Weis said DeBolt was found guilty of the Class 1 felony charge at the conclusion of a five-day jury trial in December 2019.

Circuit Court Judge Jody Gleason sentenced DeBolt to the jail term last week.

DeBolt’s conviction and sentencing are the result of a Yorkville police investigation of a report of sexual assault made in August 2015. According to the press release, police determined that a woman was sexually assaulted while she was unconscious in her own home.

Under Illinois law, DeBolt is required to serve 85% of his seven-year person term before he will be required to serve a period of mandatory supervised release that could range from three years to the rest of his natural life. DeBolt is also required by law to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

In the press release, Weis commended the victim for having the courage to come forward.

“DeBolt took advantage of the victim when she was in a vulnerable position and tried to get away with it. The victim bravely came forward and reported her experience. Without her fortitude, this crime goes unpunished. The Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office will make every effort to ensure that those who prey on victims are held accountable,” Weis said.

Weis and Assistant State’s Attorney Meghan Jirasek prosecuted the case. Attorneys Alison Motta and Robert Motta represented DeBolt.
