Police arrest two Yorkville Middle School students on weapons, vandalism charges

Yorkville police arrested two students at Yorkvillle Middle School Friday, Jan. 21 on charges of unauthorized possession of a weapon and criminal damage to state supported property.

In a joint statement, police and school officials said officers took both students into custody and they were transported to the Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles.

According to the statement, school administrators, acting on a tip Friday morning, found a student in possession of a pocketknife and a set of brass knuckles at the school at 920 Prairie Crossing Drive, Yorkville.

School administrators contacted police and a joint investigation was begun. During the investigation, police and school administrators discovered the student had allegedly been involved in a vandalism incident at the school.

Also during the investigation, police and school administrators found a second student to be in possession of pocketknife and it was determined the student also had allegedly been involved in the vandalism incident.

“At no point did either of these individuals threaten any students or staff at the middle school with the previously mentioned contraband,” police and school officials said in the statement.
