A Yorkville man, Kenneth Vonheidecke, 69, died in a two vehicle crash Saturday evening on Galena Road near Kennedy Road in Yorkville, according to Yorkville police.
In a statement, police said their preliminary investigation into the crash indicates it occurred at 5 p.m. Dec. 11 when a 2003 Cadillac Escalade driven by Vonheidecke, which was traveling westbound on Galena Road just east of Kennedy Road, crossed over into the eastbound lane of traffic and struck a 2003 Chevrolet box truck head-on.
Police said Vonheidecke was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the box truck, a 38 year-old Aurora man and a 70 year-old passenger in the truck, were both transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Galena Road was closed for several hours following the crash as police conducted their investigation.
Montgomery Police, the Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District and the Kendall County Coroner’s Office also responded and assisted at the scene
