Oswego junior Audra Soderlind capped off a spectacular junior year that saw her win a conference title and take second at regionals with a school record-breaking run at state, shattering her lifetime best by 24 seconds in taking 15th in Peoria. She is the Record Newspapers Girls Cross Country Athlete of the Year.
The Yorkville girls cross country team had its extraordinary run of taking home state trophies come to an end with a fifth-place finish at Saturday's Class 3A state cross country meet. Oswego's boys, likewise, took fifth place, while Oswego's Audra Soderlind and Oswego East's Parker Nold both made All-State, as did Yorkville's Anna Hunter and Oswego's Ethan Forsell.
Led by Ethan Forsell, Ben Huey and Balin Doud, who all finished in the top 15 individually, Oswego's boys cross country team took fourth at the Class 3A Hinsdale Central Sectional to qualify for state for the first time since 1994.
