High school sports roundup for Monday, March 1: Josie Ness, Sandwich top Plano to clinch fourth straight winning season

Josie Ness scored 13 points and Claire Allen added 11 for the Lady Indians (8-2, 6-2), whose eighth win assured the program’s fourth straight winning season. Grace Donahue added six points. Rachel Martinez had five points for Plano (1-10, 0-8).

GIRLS BOWLING

Oswego

Oswego recognized seniors Mac Donahue Savanna Jourdan and Lily Ratledge at Parkside Lanes Monday, then took to the lanes and put up team scores of 931, 933 and 962 respectively to win the match with a clean sweep against the Blackhawks.

Nearly all of Oswego’s varsity bowlers shot 500 series or better. Katelyn Watson led the Panthers with a personal season high 621 series (207 average) and Lani Breedlove rolled 585 series. Jourdan shot 533 on the night while Evelyn James contributed with a 519 series. Donahue opened the match with a 204 game and finished with a 499 series while Ratledge rounded out the Panther varsity team with a 491 series that included a 200 in game two of the set.

The JV team was also a winner on the night and three freshmen bowlers stepped up by rolling 500 series or above. Among these freshmen were Hailey Jourdan who led the team with a 215, 169, and 208 for a 592 series. Madi Watson (523) and Amber Lymenstull (503) rounded out the JV leaders. Sydney Kuntzman finished strong after a slow start to shoot 457 on the night while Lexi Dellaca (290), Grace Chivari (246), and Devonna Givens (220) all contributed to the Panther victory bowling two games in the match.

BOYS BOWLING

Oswego East

The Wolves defeated Joliet West at both the varsity and JV levels 10-0.  Varsity won 2,692-2,458 behind a 601 meet high by sophomore Nick Panozzo, ringing eight strikes toward a 243 third game. Senior Liam Fitzpatrick scored 585 in the win and sophomore Tyler Meixensperger knocked down 542 in the effort.

Junior varsity was victorious 2,517-1,839 behind 500+ series by sophomore Rob Vieira (514), junior Dylan Funk (505) and junior Brady Finn (500).  Sophomore Sean Nano also tallied 512 between both squads.
