High school sports roundup for Saturday, Oct. 23: Oswego Co-Op swimming wins 14th straight SPC title

Southwest Prairie Conference meet

The Oswego Co-Op swimming team won nine out of the 11 events and scored 338 points to easily beat out runner-up Plainfield’s 232 points and win the program’s 14th consecutive Southwest Prairie Conference championship on Saturday. Oswego also swept all 11 JV events.

Varsity winners included Amelia Soriaga in the diving competition (399.50 points), the 200 medley relay of Hailey Fris, Katie Gresik, Carson White and Chloe Diner (1:49.19), Corinne Guist in the 200 freestyle (1:53.76), Gresik in the 200 individual medley (2:09.93) and 100 butterfly (58.10) and Diner in the 100 free (53.33).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Oswego East Regional

Oswego won the team title and Oswego East’s Parker Nold won the individual title at the Class 3A Oswego East Regional.

Nold won the race in 14:47. Oswego was paced by Ethan Forsell, third in 15:01, and Balin Doud, sixth in 15:18. Oswego beat out runner-up Waubonsie Valley 51-79.

East Moline Regional

Yorkville, paced by Nick Clever (24th, 15:52), took fifth at the regional to advance to sectionals.

St. Bede Regional

Sandwich, paced by Wyatt Miller (third, 15:45.1), took second to advance its team to sectionals for the first time in eight years. Max Cryer was sixth in 15:59.8.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Oswego East Regional

Oswego’s Audra Soderlind was second in 17:35 behind only Batavia’s Katrina Schlenker (17:26) at the Oswego East Regional. Oswego East, paced by Morgan Dick (ninth, 18:06), was fifth, with Oswego sixth to advance to sectionals.

East Moline Regional

Yorkville’s Anna Hunter won the race in 17:44 and teammate Makenna Edward was third in 17:49, and Yorkville (31 points) took second to Minooka (28).

St. Bede Regional

Sandwich, paced by freshman Joanna Rivera (fourth, 19:11.3), took second to advance its team to sectionals.
