More than a month after Illinois moved into Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois plan, City of Sycamore officials announced masks will go back to being required for all employees and visitors in government buildings as virus cases trend upwards.
New evidence suggests the delta variant could be as contagious as the chickenpox, and even fully vaccinated people may be able to easily spread it. But the CDC emphasizes that COVID-19 vaccines are still highly effective at preventing infections, severe disease and death, and that breakthrough infections are uncommon.
IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike: “Until more people are vaccinated, we join CDC in recommending everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask indoors in areas of substantial and high transmissions, and in K-12 schools.”
Citing new information about the ability of the delta variant to spread among vaccinated people, the CDC also recommended indoor masks for all teachers, staff, students and visitors to schools, regardless of vaccination status.
