BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP – A 54-year-old DeKalb man has died from injuries suffered in an accident that killed a 27-year-old Hampshire woman Thursday morning.

According to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Crowley died at the hospital on Thursday. He was a passenger in a Ford transit work van that was struck head-on on Plank Road near Lawrence Road in Burlington Township.

The news release stated that the woman, whose name has not yet been released, was driving a white Hyundai Elantra west on Plank Road when she crossed the center line and hit the van head-on.

The woman was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where she died from her injuries. Crowley was also taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in serious condition before succumbing to his injuries. A 19-year-old man, who was a front seat passenger in the van, suffered minor injuries while the 51-year-old male driver of the van was not hurt.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the blowing and drifting snowy roadway conditions were a contributing factor as to why the Elantra crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, according to the release.
