Koch drops reelection bid for Sugar Grove trustee

Sugar Grove Village Trustee Ted Koch announced Monday that he won’t seek reelection to his seat in the April election.

According to a news release, there are now three candidates on the ballot for three available seats.

“With the strong quality of the candidates, and community interest and dedication of Sean Herron, Mike Schomas and Jamie White, I am happy to step aside,” Koch stated in the release. “I am pleased with the accomplishments of the Board during my tenure.”

Koch cited his advocacy for small businesses and his extensive background in finance and banking that has helped him be part of the village leadership achieving balanced budgets and excellent credit ratings, the release stated.

According to the release, he also helped oversee development of affordable senior housing at Chelsea Commons and revitalization of new fuel stations and restaurants that have increased revenues for the village. As well, Koch has been a strong backer of the police department and making sure police pensions are funded properly.

Koch has served as a Village Board member since 2015. His current term expires in April.
