Kane Clerk announces lottery for candidate name placement on June 28 primary ballot

A lottery for Kane County candidate placement on the June 28 General Primary Election ballot will be held at 9 a.m. March 16, according to a news release from Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham.

The candidate filing period opens at 8 a.m. Monday, March 7 and ends on March 14.

The lottery will be held at the Kane County Clerk’s Office at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.

The names of the candidates who are in line to file the morning of March 7 will be drawn randomly, and the person whose name is drawn first will be first on the ballot, Cunningham said in a voicemail message. Candidates who file later in the day Monday and throughout the remaining filing period will not be included in the lottery.

“There are theories out there that if you are first or last on the ballot you’ll have an advantage, whether it is the truth or not, I don’t know,” Cunningham said.
