West Chicago, which co-ops with Batavia and Geneva, scored 275 points to win Saturday’s St. Charles North Sectional. The host North Stars were second with 256 points. It was the first sectional championship for West Chicago since 1992.
Propelled by standouts Izzy Beu and Tess Stavropoulos, St. Charles North won its fifth straight DuKane Conference swimming championship Saturday. St. Charles East was second.
Caroline Kramer and Kit Schneider won individual championships in the 50 freestyle and 100 breastroke to lead Hinsdale Central to second at state, while St. Charles North won the meet-ending 400 freestyle relay to get third. Oswego Co-op's Katie Gresik was second in the 500 free.
St. Charles North and Rosary got off to strong starts in Friday's state swimming preliminaries, sending several swimmers to Saturday's state finals.
St. Charles North won seven of the 11 events and advanced all three relay teams and five swimmers to next week’s state meet, winning its fourth consecutive sectional title.
In the seventh annual 'For Scout' crosstown swim meet Thursday, St. Charles North and East raised $10,000. The meet is put on in honor of Madison "Scout" Cantrell who died unexpectedly in Oct. 2014.
Kaneland’s Leah Hayes showed the state why her future in girls swimming is so bright, everyone is going to have to wear shades. Hayes easily won titles in both of her events at Saturday’s IHSA girls swimming and diving state championships at the brand-new FMC Natatorium in Westmont.
