Number of Kane County COVID-19 cases continues to drop

Illinois public health officials on Sunday reported 124 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and no new deaths.

That is a drop from the 163 new cases reported on Saturday. Kane County has now seen 55,578 total cases of the virus and 753 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 88 consecutive days below 8%. The region’s positivity rate decreased from 6.8% to 6.7%. Currently, 23% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average went up slightly from 8% to 8.2%, and DuPage County’s decreased from 6.2% to 5.9%.

Hospitalizations have increased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,666 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 10 additional deaths Sunday. The state received the results of 70,106 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday afternoon.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate decreased from 4.1% to 4%.

Illinois has seen 1,302,241 total cases of the virus, and 21,663 people have died.
