Kane County’s COVID-19 positivity rate now over 8%

Region 8′s rate still under 8%, as DuPage County’s rate remained at 7%

Illinois public officials on Tuesday reported 154 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and no new deaths. There were 130 new cases reported Monday.

Kane County has now seen 54,789 total cases of the virus and 749 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 83 consecutive days below 8%. The region’s positivity rate increased to 7.4%. Currently, 25% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average increased to 8.2% and DuPage County’s stayed flat at 7.0%.

Hospitalizations have increased nine out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,193 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 17 additional deaths Tuesday. The IDPH received the results of 58,248 tests leading up to Tuesday afternoon.

According to the IDPH, the rolling seven-day positivity rate average in the state is 4.3%.

Illinois now has seen 1,285,398 total cases of the virus, and 21,540 people have died.
