A Peru man faces up to a year in jail after La Salle police clocked him driving nearly 100 mph in a 55-mph zone.

Wesley F. Thompson, 45, was charged with speeding more than 35 mph over the posted limit, a Class A misdemeanor carrying up to 364 days in La Salle County Jail.

La Salle police said in a Thursday news release that Thompson was charged at 12:30 a.m. Monday at an unspecified location on U.S. 6 after police clocked him at 96 mph.

Thompson was issued a notice to appear.
