La Salle County Retired Teachers Association meets April 27 at The Oaks

Spring meeting features historical presentation and home tour; reservations required

Pictured here is the home of future Civil War General William Wallace and his wife Ann. Built in 1858 on Ottawa's north bluff and surrounded by stately oak trees, the Wallaces named their home "The Oaks."  Once a state historic site, a private home, and then divided into apartments, the ground floor of the home has been restored back to its Victorian splendor by Mr. and Mrs. Jay McCracken.

The La Salle County Retired Teachers Association will hold its spring general meeting at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 27, at The Oaks, 2101 Caton Road, Ottawa.

The meeting includes a “History of The Oaks” presentation led by Jay McCraken and tours of the home. Attendees will also be able to walk in Wallace-Dickey Cemetery, weather permitting.

Reservations are required. To RSVP, email sjhauger@gmail.com or call 815-228-3838.
