Granville police searching for suspect following bank robbery Monday

Padilla: No danger to the public, call in anything suspicious

Law enforcement responded Monday afternoon to a holdup at the Granville National Bank. Police Chief Michael Padilla said they are searching for the suspect but there was no danger to the public.

Police are looking for a robbery suspect after the Granville National Bank was robbed on Monday afternoon. Granville Police Chief Michael Padilla said there was no danger to the public, but the suspect had brandished a knife and made off with an unspecified amount of currency.

Padilla said his department responded to a robbery at 3:06 p.m. Along with the Granville police, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Spring Valley Police and Oglesby Police responded to the scene.

Padilla said there is not currently a suspect in custody and that the investigation is ongoing.

“As of right now, there is no danger to the public,” Padilla said. “We’re still searching for the suspect. We’re asking people if they see anything suspicious, or anyone suspicious, to call it in.”

Shaw Local News Network spoke with six pedestrians near the scene of the holdup. Most said they heard about the robbery but well after the fact. None of those interviewed witnessed anyone flee.

Padilla said there were no injuries reported.

Padilla and Putnam County Sheriff Joshua Boedigheimer both confirmed federal investigators were en route to the scene.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
