Girls basketball
Serena 71, Indian Creek 13: At Al Stegman Court in Serena on Thursday, reigning Times Athlete of the Week Jenna Setchell surpassed 1,000 points in her varsity career in the Little Ten Conference victory for the host Huskers.
Serena – which led 55-12 heading into the fourth quarter – received 26 points and eight assists from Setchell along with a dozen points and six steals courtesy of Anna Hjerpe. Macy Mahler added eight points for the victors.
Marquette 57, Midland 49: At rural Varna, the visiting Crusaders secured a Tri-County Conference triumph thanks to a 25-point, seven-rebound, five-steal performance from Kaitlyn Davis.
Hunter Hopkins contributed 13 points and eight assists for the victors, with Morgan Nelson chipping in a dozen points.
Seneca 40, Roanoke-Benson 32: At Roanoke, the visiting Fighting Irish (8-2 overall, 5-0 TCC) remained unbeaten on the Tri-County Conference loop, trailing at halftime but pulling away in the second half.
Evelyn O’Connor scored 10 points, Audry McNabb and Tessa Krull put in eight each, and Alyssa Zellers tallied seven points for Seneca.
Hinckley-Big Rock 58, Somonauk/Leland 40: At Hinckley, the visiting Bobcats were short-handed but managed to stay in the Little Ten Conference game until late.
Abby Hohmann, Kiley Mason and Leah Norris combined for 28 of Somonauk/Leland’s 40 points.
Tri-Valley 65, Fieldcrest 34: At Downs, the visiting Knights (3-5 overall, 2-1 Heart of Illinois) received 22 points courtesy of Macy Gochanour and 12 more from Pru Magnan in the defeat.
Fisher 67, FCW 56: At Fisher, the visiting Falcons were handed the Heart of Illinois Conference loss.
Boys basketball
Newark 54, Indian Creek 46: At Newark, the host Norsemen (4-3) pulled off another Little Ten Conference upset, handing the Timberwolves – now 9-1 – their first defeat of the season.
Dylan Long’s 24 points, Payton Wills’ near double-double of 10 points, eight rebounds and five blocks, and Reggie Chapman’s six points and seven assists paced Newark.
Genoa-Kingston 62, Sandwich 60: At Genoa, the visiting Indians (1-6) led late, but ultimately suffered the loss despite 22 points from Griffin Somlock, 21 from Nick Michalek and 10 courtesy of Quinn Rome.
Boys wrestling
Seneca 58, Clifton Central 17; Seneca 66, Dwight 12: At Dwight, the Fighting Irish picked up a pair of wins in a triangular.
Wyatt Coop at 113/120 pounds (technical fall, pinfall) and Colton Angeloff at 215 (two first-period pinfalls) both scored a pair of wins in contested bouts for Seneca (6-0).

Ottawa 2,584, Morris 2,174: In Interstate 8 competition, the Pirates (3-1) were led by Kilah Figenbaum’s 478 series (189 high game) with additional 165-plus games rolled by Kathy Perez (169), Tessa Diaz (168) and Rylee Harsted (165).
