Detours, no parking zones announced for Sycamore Pumpkin Festival events

SYCAMORE – Sycamore Police Chief Jim Winters and the Sycamore Police Department are announcing the following street closures, detour routes and no parking zones for this year’s Pumpkin Festival events Sunday.

The police department will tow any vehicle found in the no parking zones.

Sycamore Pumpkin Fest 10K race area

The 10K race stages on East State Street near Kishwaukee Drive. The race begins at 9:05 a.m. and will cause some traffic disruption until runners clear the race route. Police encourage participants driving to the race to park at the Sycamore Park District’s east ball diamonds on Airport Road.

The detour route for vehicles traveling eastbound on State Street will be north on North Sacramento Street to West Page Street, eastbound on Page street to North Main Street, southbound on North Main Street to Sycamore Street, eastbound on East Sycamore Street to Sabin Street, southbound on Sabin Street to Swanson Street, eastbound on Swanson Street to Kingsway Drive, and southbound on Kingsway Drive to East State Street. For westbound traffic, use the same detour pattern in reverse order.

Parade area

The parade route will be posted as no parking zones. This includes Somonauk Street from Borden Street to West Elm Street, West Elm Street to South California Street, South California Street to West State Street, West State Street to Main Street and South Main Street to Lincoln Street, where the parade ends.

South Locust Street and Commercial Street will be posted as no parking zones to allow for bypass traffic during the parade and to allow parade entries a route out of Sycamore.

The parade detour route for westbound traffic on Route 63 is northbound on North Walnut Street to East Sycamore Street, westbound to North Main Street, northbound to Page Street, westbound to Sacramento Street and then southbound to State Street. For eastbound traffic, use the same detour pattern in reverse order.

The parade detour route for southbound traffic will be southbound on South Sacramento Street to West High Street, eastbound to Park Avenue, southbound on Park Avenue to Georjean Court, then eastbound to Somonauk Street. The opposite detour pattern exists for northbound traffic through the city.

The detour routes will be posted as no parking zones.

Parade staging area

The parade staging area of Borden Avenue, South Prairie Street and Thornwood Street also will be posted as no parking. Access will be limited to parade vehicles and participants only.

Bands participating in the parade will be parking their school buses on Turner Place, Reckitt Street and Wild Street between Reckitt and Kerr streets. The bands will stage on Vance and Townsend streets.

All of the mentioned roadways will be posted as no parking. Access will be limited to band vehicles and participants only.

The parade ends and will be de-staging at the intersection of Locust and Lincoln streets. Parade participants may exit north on Locust street to State steet or south on Locust or Commercial streets to Kerr streets. The majority of the parade de-staging will take place in front of South East Elementary School. The area will be posted as no parking. Access will be limited to parade vehicles and participants only.

It will be difficult for local residents to leave or enter parade areas after 11 a.m., Sycamore police said.

Other festival events, handicapped parking

During other festival events from Wednesday to Sunday, the Sycamore Public Library will offer handicapped parking.

Ten handicapped parking spots will be available behind the DeKalb County Courthouse 4 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Sunday. Handicapped parking for the parade will be established only in the 100 block of N. Main street. A handicapped viewing area for the parade will be established at the intersection of State and Main streets.
