Owners of new Cortland-based Twins Ice Cream ‘living the dream’

“We hope to open more ice cream shops in DeKalb and Sycamore. ... We’re living the dream,” said Ruben Armas, co-owner of Twins Ice Cream

CORTLAND - Ruben Armas’ dream was always to open an ice cream shop.

On May 29, Armas’ dream came true when he opened Twins Ice Cream, 211 S. Somonauk Road in Cortland, with his wife, Imelda Espinoza.

The ice cream shop is open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily and serves 20 flavors of ice cream, as well as drinks, including water and Gatorade, snacks and ice cream sandwiches.

Twins is named for Armas’ mother, who is a twin.

“There’s not a lot of businesses here [in Cortland], and I thought it was a good place to start a business,” Armas said. “So far, business has been very good. People are learning we are here. [One weekend] we had 100 people stop by. It’s about making people happy, seeing them smile.”

Armas’ next goal is to open a convenience store next door to the ice cream shop.

“It will be a small grocery store, with some Mexican items, like tortillas, but also things like chips and soda,” he said. “We hope to open more ice cream shops in DeKalb and Sycamore. ... We’re living the dream.”
