DeKalb police warn against vehicle burglaries

DeKALB – DeKalb police are warning residents about an uptick in vehicle burglaries which could occur during the summer months, and offering tips to remain vigilant.

Warm weather brings more foot traffic to both the downtown area and residential areas, according to a news release from the DeKalb Police Department Tuesday.

The department recommends the following vehicle burglary prevention tips:

  • Lock your car, even in your driveway.
  • Do not leave your electronic devices, wallets, purses, cash, or keys visible from outside your vehicle.
  • Do not leave vehicles unattended if the keys are inside.
  • Keep outside lights on after dark.
  • If you see something, say something.

Report any suspicious activity or persons immediately to the DeKalb Police Department.

Contact the DeKalb Police Department at 815-748-8400 or contact Crime Stoppers at 815-895-3272 with information about crimes. Text ALERTDEKALB to 67282 and provide an anonymous tip.
