Snow makes its way to DeKalb County as winter storm expected to go through Monday night into Tuesday

School closures ahead of Tuesday

DeKALB – DeKalb commuters on their way home from work Monday likely encountered the beginning of a snow storm expected to bring with it three to seven inches of snow Monday night into the Tuesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, DeKalb County remains under a winter storm warning through noon Tuesday, and snow accumulation was expected to pick up throughout Monday night, with the highest accumulations west of Interstate 39.

Northeast winds gusting as high as 35 mph could lead to blowing snow and periods of significantly low visibility on roads, so drivers are urged to use caution, as travel will become difficult.

Freezing rain and drizzle could mix in with snow at times Monday night, mostly south of I-88, according to the winter storm warning.

DeKalb School District 428, which only has certain students in person, namely special education students, will be fully remote Tuesday, according to announcements from the district’s official social media.

Update 8:20 p.m.: Indian Creek District 425 will be fully remote Tuesday, according to a social media post.

Update 8:55 p.m.: Hinckley-Big Rock District 429 will be fully remote Tuesday, according to a social media post.

Update 9:17 p.m.: Genoa-Kingston District 424 will be fully remote Tuesday, Genoa-Kingston District 424 from Superintendent Brent O’Daniell.

Update 9:33: Sycamore District 427 will be fully remote Tuesday, according to a social media post, as will Sandwich District 430.

Update 9:30 a.m. Hiawatha District 426 will be fully remote Tuesday, according to a social media post.
