Kaneland soccer player Nick Mitchinson scores 7 goals in victory over Plano

Nick Mitchinson had the kind of day that comes around only once in a great while Monday, scoring a whopping seven goals for Kaneland in an 8-1 soccer victory at Plano.

All eight of the Knights’ goals came in the first half. Sean Gannon had three assists in the win.

DePue 10, Indian Creek 3: At DePue, the Timberwolves fell short in a Little Ten Conference matchup.

Luke Barton, Christian Meier and Grant Schlorff each scored once in the loss.

Sycamore 11, Sandwich 0: At Sycamore, the Spartans had no trouble with the winless visitors, scoring 11 times on 17 shots while allowing Sandwich only one shot on goal.

BOYS GOLF

Little Ten Conference Tournament: At Indian Oaks, Hinckley-Big Rock “pick(ed) a bad day to have a bad day,” coach Matt Olsen said after the Royals finished second behind Newark/Serena co-op.

H-BR’s Elliot McGuire finished third on the individual scoreboard with an 85, and Richard Hintzsche finished sixth with an 89. Newark’s Dylan Cartwright was the meet medalist, shooting a 76.

Newark edged the Royals by a significant 23-stroke margin, scoring 344 as team. H-BR shot 367 to take second, and Indian Creek took fifth with a 406.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Indian Creek Invite: At Indian Creek, Genoa-Kingston took third out of three teams with enough runners to qualify with a team score of 57. IMSA took first with 21 points, and Durand was second at 42.

The top finisher among local runners was Hinckley-Big Rock’s James Simpkins, who placed third overall with a time of 19:4.75. G-K’s Nathan Brening was sixth at 20:39.11 and Indian Creek’s lone runner, Gage Gibson, placed 18th at 27:48.69.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Indian Creek Invite: At Indian Creek, IMSA came out ahead of Genoa-Kingston, 21-34, to pick up the team win.

The Cogs’ Kaitlyn Jerbi was the individual winner with a time of 21:24.59, and teammate Rowan Ellis finished 10th in the field of 16 at 28:03.45.
