The trio of Leah Benson, Maddy Kees and Eden Russell led the DeKalb-Sycamore co-op girls gymnastics team to a convincing victory in the DuPage Valley Conference Meet on Friday night.
Benson and Russell tied for the all-around title with matching composite scores of 36.6, and the Barbs’ final tally of 143.1 easily outdistanced runner-up Neuqua Valley (135.95) in the five-team competition.
Kees turned in first-place efforts on vault (9.55) and uneven parallel bars (9.45), and finished third on balance beam (9.1). Russell won beam (9.4), placed second on vault (9.45) and took third on bars (9.2). Benson captured second place on beam (9.25) and bars (9.35), and she placed third on floor (8.850) and vault (9.150).
DeKalb-Sycamore’s Hannah Mekijan and Lucy Jamison finished eighth and 10th, respectively, in the all-around. Jamison was fifth on vault (8.825).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Indian Creek 90, Putnam County 48: At Putnam County, Davis Stryker, Cam Russell and Michael Lampson each scored 17 points, Brennen McNally and Drew Gaston had double-doubles, and the Timberwolves rolled in a nonconference game.
Russell also had six steals, while McNally had 16 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Gaston scored 14 points and dished out 10 assists.
IC (16-4) finishes its season Saturday with a 6:45 p.m. tipoff at home against Lena-Winslow.
Kaneland 66, Hinckley-Big Rock 35: At Kaneland, David Kolev and Porter Conroy each scored 12 points for the Knights in their nonconference win.
Troyer Carlson had 11 for Kaneland (8-6), which bolted to a 19-5 lead after one quarter and led, 42-15, at halftime. The Knights finish their season with a 5 p.m. tipoff Saturday on senior night against Sandwich.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Kaneland 47, Sandwich 34: At Sandwich, Kelsey Modaff scored a game-high 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and added four steals, as the visiting Knights captured the Interstate 8 Conference game.
Kylie Holubecki and Chloe Conley had 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Kaneland (9-4), and Katharine Marshall contributed eight rebounds and five assists.
Sycamore 53, Morris 19: At Sycamore, the host Spartans won the Interstate 8 game.
Sycamore plays its season finale at 4 p.m. Saturday against DeKalb.
